candle care 101

ready to experience a unique sensory experience with your new candle? read on to learn some quick tips on how to get the most out of your candle!

let's start with the basics that apply to all wood wick candles, including ours!

wooden wicks are more delicate than traditional cotton wicks and can take more love to maintain.

we’re obsessed with wooden wicks (obviously) because they provide a unique & delightful experience, but because our wicks are cut from untreated wood, there may be slight variances in the thickness and grain of each wick. as a result, each candle may have a slightly different burn and may require extra maintenance. please read the below for full guidance on how to properly light and care for your new candle:

step 1

lighting a candle

allow the wax to fully melt to the edge of the can, both on the first burn and consecutive ones! (this may take a few hours)

step 2

trimming a wooden wick with a mala wick trimmer

on every new burn, trim wood wick to 1/8" or cotton wick to 1/4". the shorter height allows the wax to capillary up the wick to feed the flame properly.

step 3

snuffing the lit candle with the candle lid

do not burn the candle for longer than 4 hours at a time. it's time for a new candle when there is 1/2" wax remaining!

do's and don'ts

read our blog here or head to our Instagram Reels for more tips.

please follow the warning info located on the bottom of your candle.

~ always burn your candle within sight. do not burn the candle for longer than 4 hours at a time.

~ keep burning candles away from flammable materials, children and pets.

~ do not light on or near any objects that can catch fire, and do not place on or near other heat sources.

~ burn candle on heat resistant surfaces only.

how to fix tunneling

if your candle starts to tunnel (major wax hang up on side of jar), your wick can have troubles staying lit. if it hasn't gone too far - oftentimes it can be fixed.

how? use a butter knife to carefully take out the tunnelling wax to level out the surface or try the tin foil method here.

ps: the container will be warm to touch when candle is lit.

hot tip

our wooden wicks light best with a long lighter (hold it 5-8 seconds when lighting to give more fuel to the wick).

if you think you've over trimmed the wick, use a butter knife to scrape out a bit of wax directly underneath the wick and relight with a BBQ lighter, or try this method here.
