Muse No 6 : Bailey from Acai Dude

by Melody Lim |

On today's Muse Series, we chat with Bailey, a Vancouver based content creator, food truck owner, and dog mum of two adorable dachshunds! We love the platform Bailey has created for herself and how she built a one-of-a-kind food truck business using her past experience in marketing while utilizing her current following on social media.

What is your story?

I was born in California, and then my mom remarried a Canadian so that’s how I found myself in Vancouver! I still visit my family in San Diego quite often, but my homebase is here. I pursued marketing & communications in University. Started a 9-5 at a super cool Marketing Agency called Agency Media but ultimately decided to take the leap and start Açai Dude.

What inspired you to start Acai Dude?

I’ve always loved açai smoothie bowls. They’re super popular in California, Hawaii and Bali. All of my fave places! I was actually in Bali when I thought of açai dude and I wanted a taste of paradise back home. In Vancouver they’re just starting to get popular and I wanted to share this healthy yummy snack. 👏🏼

What does a typical day look like?

I always wake up around 8-9am and take out my cute puppers Rufus and Scooter, then always secondly hot water with lemon with my probiotic pills. Then I have my coffee and sit on computer, catch up on emails / IG engagement. I have the luxury of working from home most days, but I also work the Açai Dude truck whenever it’s out. I try to make the gym a few times a week and I always wind down with a yummy dinner & whatever Netflix show I’m binging. 😌

Favorite part of your job?

I LOVE hearing feedback and reading açai dude reviews on Facebook / google! Or whenever people share the bowls via social. It still blows my mind till this day that people love them and promote them. I’ll never get over that. (: 😇

Most challenging part about running your own business?

There’s so many components and it’s hard to do it all. I’ve learned to delegate and let go of things that you simply can’t control.

What are your self-care rituals?

It is so, so important to take a breather and take care of yourself. My self-care routine consists more than bubble baths and face masks. As much as I love doing that, and I do #selfcaresunday I find it’s the things that actually get me moving that calms my mind. I love to go on runs, or hike with our dogs Rufus and Scooter. Or self- care for me is knowing my boundaries and not doing things that society tells me how I should be doing things. ☺️

If you weren’t running Acai, what do you think you would be doing?

Omg I love this question and often have these talks with my friends. I think I would really like to be a producer.. on like a reality Tv show or music videos. I love seeing creative shots come to life! Especially with music, always have music playing in the background.

What has been one of the most rewarding experiences being in your line of work so far?

The opportunities that Açai Dude has had. Can’t wrap my mind around some of the events we’ve been fortunate to be invited to. Big brands like lululemon and Sage Essential Oils have reached out to collab and a few days on movie sets are pretty cool. Oh and it’s super rewarding that I can drive a 24ft food truck. NBD. 😉

Best piece of advice to others that are wanting to start their own business?

GO FOR IT. 👏🏼 your happiness is 100% your priority and being your own boss is the most rewarding feeling.

Life motto you live by?

Life has a way of working itself out.

What’s next for Acai dude?

Expanding the menu and getting ready for summer. We have some super fun things planned and I cannot wait to share.

Keep up with Bailey over at @baileymarshall and @acaidude :)
